Large-screened Huawei model expected at IFA on September 2nd?

A pair of tweets from Evan Blass (of @evleaks fame) reveals an image of a large-screened Huawei branded handset. The serial leaker says that this unnamed handset will first see the light of day on September 2nd at IFA, in Berlin. In his first tweet, Blass says that the phone will have Force Touch and could be a D-series model. But in his second tweet, Blass says that Force Touch had to be pulled from the device and that the phone is not a D-series model since that particular series is dead.

For those who have been in a coma, Force Touch is a feature for touch displays that Apple introduced on the Apple Watch. The technology helps a device distinguish between a regular tap and a stronger press. This allows that same device to activate different options depending on the strength of the touch. Some have wondered whether this is the same thing as using a long-press to differentiate two taps. The difference is that a long-press is based on how long you tap the screen and Force Touch is based on how hard you tap the screen. (As an aside, we'd guess that many of you probably press harder for a long press out of habit, but it is not required).

Force Touch is expected to be the killer new feature for the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus. But in a bit of one-upmanship between competitors, ZTE was actually the first to announce a smartphone with the Force Touch feature. Last month, it was announced that the ZTE Axon Mini will be released in September with Force Touch on board. Whether ZTE can deliver this to the market before Apple does is another story. Judging from Huawei's decision to pull the feature from this unknown model, Force Touch might not be so easy to implement on a smartphone.
