Although iOS is pretty straightforward and intuitive, it still has a a number of hidden features and tweaks that the Average Joe is unaware about. It might be universally regarded numerous times less feature-rich than Android, iOS still has a pleasant host of surprises hidden deep in its menus.<br />
<br />
Among these is the secret field test menu, which provides users with information about the cellular network and the surrounding cell towers. Regular users won't find this feature rather useful, accessing this menu enables us to make a pretty interesting tweak to the five-dot network signal meter in iOS' status bar.<br />
<br />
You can swap the dot menu for a numeric representation of the signal strength that will display it in dBm. The process is extremely easy and quick, and the best part is you don't need a jailbroken iPhone. Here's how to do this:<br />
<br />
How to unlock the secret network signal meter on your iPhone<br />
<br />
<b>1. Step #1</b><br />
<br />
First things first, open your dialer and input *3001#12345#* then press dial. Make sure not to forget the asterisk at the end as doing so will result in a network error!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj2GRl33mDpHq3uC3vy7DcDLkRigNlt-mEIOkdqpz9Ur9YeBIGVv2RGzca28-_gvQxXf8gPPAokYegSC106OMtWsqQK9f-_bdqE5y3xp7zpLjRbQUX_sA5mZ5mLPvATdp20gGuTyGxkqiJ/s1600/IMG-0392.PNG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj2GRl33mDpHq3uC3vy7DcDLkRigNlt-mEIOkdqpz9Ur9YeBIGVv2RGzca28-_gvQxXf8gPPAokYegSC106OMtWsqQK9f-_bdqE5y3xp7zpLjRbQUX_sA5mZ5mLPvATdp20gGuTyGxkqiJ/s320/IMG-0392.PNG.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>2. Step #2</b><br />
<br />
After you get into the hidden Field Test menu, you will notice that the network meter has changed from a graphical to a numeric one. You will also notice that the measurement is a negative one, but more on that later.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA32oy-rJnmRL1PT3504jwrJVQDpmZrLzt_wknLEKsTXQxwP0kG24u9xGjm5zQtUlyzRnPKSM1u1HE20MnpwgKglpWGh9U4ereW9ZdlOoURClujW6Hr__Moqd5scc1F2cA6cPM8Pa2gSNc/s1600/IMG-0393.PNG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA32oy-rJnmRL1PT3504jwrJVQDpmZrLzt_wknLEKsTXQxwP0kG24u9xGjm5zQtUlyzRnPKSM1u1HE20MnpwgKglpWGh9U4ereW9ZdlOoURClujW6Hr__Moqd5scc1F2cA6cPM8Pa2gSNc/s320/IMG-0393.PNG.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>3. Step 3</b><br />
<br />
Without closing the Field Test menu, press and hold your iPhone's power button until the Power Off screen pops up. After it appears, simply hold the home button for a few seconds until you see your home screen. This way, you will get to keep the numerical signal strength meter outside the Field Test menu.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAGYTppuwiDmhPMLpZ4GZogsH7k_BK7me_2fUsSiD4lyqSbkQ8-z4l118ezeEWDnjYWV3qdwBVbqhAx18M4WhNn_Scs76MHz8KfLYcJDCB07iIVdYY5cbjN9fJmj7a9PoUGEmuVSoLSaRF/s1600/iphone-hold.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAGYTppuwiDmhPMLpZ4GZogsH7k_BK7me_2fUsSiD4lyqSbkQ8-z4l118ezeEWDnjYWV3qdwBVbqhAx18M4WhNn_Scs76MHz8KfLYcJDCB07iIVdYY5cbjN9fJmj7a9PoUGEmuVSoLSaRF/s400/iphone-hold.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>4. Step #4</b><br />
<br />
Here's it in action. The best part is that you can tap on the upper left corner of your display and the two types of signal meters — the numeric and the five-dot one — will automatically change with each tap.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnyPFQ13eTl6xJbdJG0MfJ_Ojun6DeuCTgnZyEXneTsggMmBtpOa_m9WXGRxtkmxDDrwP0Rlf8XWNLvXu2mGfbDAry5vIWxkSwIympYwr18XptA7kIYoug9dQzhaIfCm1TsAXmP1HFUq/s1600/iBN-42.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnyPFQ13eTl6xJbdJG0MfJ_Ojun6DeuCTgnZyEXneTsggMmBtpOa_m9WXGRxtkmxDDrwP0Rlf8XWNLvXu2mGfbDAry5vIWxkSwIympYwr18XptA7kIYoug9dQzhaIfCm1TsAXmP1HFUq/s400/iBN-42.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>5.</b><br />
<br />
As we said, the lower the negative dBm reading, the better your signal  — the best possible reading you can see is -40dBm, which equals perfect coverage, while -130dBm means that you're in a no-signal area.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqBY9CGPFmiDKgj2WI7gLiGRU1B_vPF9vPxpzIpgq8JfffYhXq3gutZxddWa-4aXFIlOo2K1oqg-Su9PaTmNajb-40M9680MJuz6p5ZfJ6pOHv6OfIQJ5oLavGOGK3o1wfxWGH5zoDrfR/s1600/dBm-guide-cellular.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqBY9CGPFmiDKgj2WI7gLiGRU1B_vPF9vPxpzIpgq8JfffYhXq3gutZxddWa-4aXFIlOo2K1oqg-Su9PaTmNajb-40M9680MJuz6p5ZfJ6pOHv6OfIQJ5oLavGOGK3o1wfxWGH5zoDrfR/s400/dBm-guide-cellular.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
