Lenovo Mobile will merge into Motorola, and then disappear

A couple of weeks ago, Lenovo said that it would start relying on Motorola to design and manufacture its smartphones. On Wednesday morning, a news report credited Lenovo Mobile Group President Chen Xudong as saying that Lenovo Mobile will eventually be incorporated into Motorola. At that point, Lenovo Mobile will no longer exist as a separate company. "The new organizational structure will be immediately released," said the Lenovo executive.

Lenovo purchased Motorola from Google in 2014, and now it appears that Motorola's executives will be running the show when it comes to smartphones. Lenovo's ZUK label will apparently become the company's "flagship internet brand" while Motorola will cover high-end devices sold in international markets.

Motorola recently released the third-generation Motorola Moto G and the Motorola Moto X Play. The latter is offered in the U.K., Germany and Canada, and is rumored to be coming to Verizon as the Motorola DROID MAXX 2. Next week, the high-end Motorola Moto X Pure Edition will be offered in the U.S., and the company is said to be working with Verizon on the Motorola DROID Turbo 2.
